Advanced Muscle Reconditioning:  AMR

AMR is a new way to look at back, body and joint pain by way of focusing on the muscles.

AMR Explained

AMR’s foundation is that pain that is thought to be from a pinched nerve, arthritis, old age, or a disc problem is actually coming from the muscles; more specifically spasmed muscles.

Many find it difficult to believe that the source of their pain is the muscle because they express their pain feels deep, or that it radiates from a nerve, or that the pain is in the joint itself, or simply that they do not feel a spasm.

X-Rays or MRIs may show abnormal findings, so other doctors assume those findings are the cause of the pain.

Muscle imbalance, weakness, injury, or just aging can cause muscle fibers to “clump” or stick together like cooked spaghetti that was not made correctly. When muscle fibers clump, muscles around the area go into an underlying reactive spasm and 'chokes" the nerves and blood vessels that pass through the clumped muscle fibers. It is this reactive spasm that causes the pain.

AMR is a therapy that stands on its own. The only thing it has in common with other soft tissue therapy such as active release, myofascial release, rolfing, shiatsu, acupressure, deep tissue, muscle stripping, etc. is that we we work with the soft tissues but other than that nothing else is the same! AMR is not taught in massage, chiropractic, physical therapy, medical school or any other health fields. Very few other practitioners have even heard of AMR and even fewer practice it! AMR gives hope time and time again to so many who’ve tried everything else and nothing has helped.

What to Expect

AMR is performed skin on skin with lotion. You can wear clothing if the area(s) that will be worked on can easily be accessible. Otherwise, you will need to get undressed into your under clothes. But don’t worry! You’ll be protected with a top sheet and covered in a private room.

You may feel soreness immediately or a few days after the treatment. The soreness may last several days. This is especially true after the first session.

You may bruise. The repetitive stroking on the area may cause superficial blood vessels to break but another reason is that the release of the choke on the blood vessels releases blood flow to the area where healing can finally occur.

AMR removes stress and provides powerful healing so you may initially feel very tired or want to sleep. Most patients report that they get the "best sleep" they have had in a very long time after their first few sessions. For us this is a huge win and a great start of the healing process.

The first session is usually the most intense. It may make you feel unusual, groggy and or just exhausted. However, some get of the table and feel a lot better.

Advanced Muscle Reconditioning provides, like Dr. Bronk says, "the holy grail, the entire purpose of orthopedic-neurological examination, which is to re-create the familiar pain the patient has been suffering”. You are our guide, it’s not what we feel but what you feel. We apply the specific stroke and you let us know if it’s effective to continue on that specific location to release the spasm. It’s never what we feel!

Tips for the Patient

The area where we are working must be completely relaxed. Trying to be “brave” and take it is not helpful. Breathing into the pain shouldn’t be done. If you can’t relax, tell us so we can lighten the stroke.

You are our best guide. You know better than we do whether we are working in the right location. Your muscles may feel hard or tight as we work on them. You may think, “That’s it! That’s the spot where the pain is coming from.” If so, you need to tell us. Especially with chronic conditions, it is difficult to know which location is more sensitive to you. AMR is interactive bodywork. So, you MUST talk to us. We will work at a level you can handle.

There may be areas that are numb, or you can’t feel. The muscles feel like crispy bacon. AMR awakens those areas by applying a few strokes and after a bit you start feeling if it's effective.

We work in a larger area than just the spot that hurts. The location of your pain is only part of the involved area. We will start in the area of pain but we will explore the muscles above, below, on the sides and even other adjacent muscles. We will follow the muscles and find your specific pattern of spasm.

The Course of Treatment

Every person’s condition and pain are unique. The vast majority of patients will notice some improvement after the first session. Any improvement after an AMR session is a good sign and confirmation we are moving in the right direction. However, for a few it may take more than one session to see any improvement. But don't feel discouraged it just means the spasms are more chronic and we have to spend more time together to release the choke.  Some extreme cases may take a number of sessions to get effective results.  Think of your spasm pattern as the cross section of a tree trunk. Each session we will take a few rings off the outside. However, the inner trunk remains. When you resume your activities, it is easy to aggravate the area and it might feel like you are back to square one. You are not. The rings of spasm that we removed are still gone, but the trunk is what is causing you trouble. With each treatment you should feel better longer and be able to do more. However, your recovery may not progress in a straight line but i know with time and consistency we can get you pain free and living a better quality life!

Chiropractic

Chiropractic Explained

Many people have the idea that chiropractic care is a way to treat back and neck pain. Chiropractic may benefit your medical care for such problems, but our job is greater than that when we do spinal adjustmtents!! Our focus is to improve your overall health and wellness.

Your body has an incredible, God given innate ability to heal itself and be well. When your body isn't functioning properly, you experience illness, disease, or pain.

Every function of your body is controlled by your central nervous system, and this function may be disrupted by misalignments in your spine. These are called subluxations. A subluxation creates interference in the function of your spinal nerves, and this may result in impaired functioning of your cells, tissues, organs and/or systems.

Chiropractic adjustments are simply a way to remove that interference and restore the natural function of your body. Chiropractic is about giving the body its God given innate healing and self regulating ability to be at its best. A true form of health and wellness.

Technique

We use a specialized palpation technique to find the vertebral misalignments and use our hands and or an instrument to perform our adjustments. We love seeing the whole family in our office from great grandparents to newborns!

AMR and Chiropractic

We see many patients that we co-manage with other Chiropractic doctors! AMR and adjustments together are even more powerful than working alone. What connects to the boney processes of the spine or any joint for that matter... muscles!! When muscles are spasmed they become short and tight. Since muscles are extremely strong they will keep pulling on the joints causing misalignments. AMR will help your body hold adjustments longer!
